STEPHEN THRELKELD, MD, CHAIR, MEDICAL ADVISORY BOARD
Dr. Stephen Threlkeld is in full time practice of internal medicine and infectious disease in Memphis, Tennessee. After receiving his M.D. degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine (UAB) in 1990, he completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Alabama Hospitals and served as a chief medical resident. He then pursued an infectious disease fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, training in clinical infectious disease and immunology of HIV infection. In addition to maintaining a busy practice, he participates in clinical trials research and internal medicine resident education. He is also actively involved in infection control in a large hospital setting and as an advisor for the stem cell transplantation program for Baptist Memorial Hospital Memphis.
RICHARD BANEY, JR, MD
Dr. Richard Baney, Jr. practices internal medicine and is currently the Assistant Medical Director of Melbourne Internal Medicine Associates (MIMA), where he is the Director of Quality Improvement and Managed Care. Dr. Baney completed a Harvard University residency in internal medicine at the Naval Hospital San Diego. Designated a Flight Surgeon, he deployed with CVW-9 aboard the USS Nimitz in support of Operations Desert Storm and Desert Sweep. He left the Navy in 1996 to return to his hometown of Melbourne, Fla. to practice with MIMA. Dr. Baney now manages the quality programs and managed care contracting for the 120 physician group.
DAVID L. KATZ, MD, MPH
Dr. David L. Katz is an internationally recognized authority on nutrition, weight management and the prevention of chronic disease. He is a board certified specialist in both internal medicine and preventive medicine/public health and Associate Professor (adjunct) in Public Health Practice at the Yale University School of Medicine. Katz is the director and founder of Yale University's Prevention Research Center, director and founder of the Integrative Medicine Center at Griffin Hospital in Derby, CT, and founder and president of the non-profit Turn the Tide Foundation. Katz has authored over 100 scientific publications and 11 books to date. He is currently the nutrition columnist for O, the Oprah Magazine; a health columnist for the New York Times Syndicate; and an editorial advisor and blogger for Prevention Magazine. Katz has twice been recognized by the Consumers Research Council of America as one of America's top physicians in preventive medicine. He is the principal inventor of the Overall Nutritional Quality Index (ONQI) algorithm.
JOSEPH I. MILLER, III, MD
Dr. Joseph I Miller, III is a cardiologist with the Fuqua Heart Center and Piedmont Heart Institute in Atlanta. An expert in preventive and predictive cardiology, he is the author of numerous scientific papers. Dr. Miller received his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine, where he also completed a fellowship in cardiology. He did his residency training in internal medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Previously, he served as associate director of the Center for Heart Disease Prevention at Emory University.
